Binkie Fairy

Our two year old is a binkie junkie. We've limited pacifier use to naps & bedtime, but she's been especially dependent lately. Today I looked at her with her sweet mouth covered up with that old plastic thing and decided, it's time! So I told Addie that if she would help me gather up all her binkies and help me hang them on the tree outside that the Binkie Fairy would take her binkies and exchange them for a toy...not just any toy, but the best toy ever. Addie listened carefully with obvious concern about giving up her beloved bink. I gave her a big handful of binkies that I had just collected from around the house and asked her to put them in the bag. She put one in, then spotted her favorite and popped it in her mouth. She put the remaining plugs in the bag, and when I reminded her that she didn't need that binkie and that the BF was going to bring her something awesome, she unplugged and threw the LAST one in the bag. Phew. Together we hung the very full binkie bag on the tree outside and as we did Addie told me: "I don't need those binkies anymore." We made it through our bedtime routine with NO tears, and NO requests for binkie. This is what Binkie Fairy will be bringing tonight:
I think she made a pretty good trade. I'll let you know what she thinks and how day #1 w/o the plug goes.

What a neat idea. I am glad it worked out so far although I thought that the BIG NEWS might be something else...
